My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Even In Death is a quirky short story collection showcasing every possible human emotion... grief, anger, hatred, love, hope... Yes, the overall theme is death but there isn't much depressing or macabre here. The characters and scenarios were believable and despite the brief length of the stories, I was sucked right into them. Some will shock you, some will make you smile, a few will bring you to tears but every one of them will stay with you long after you're done reading. This author doesn't shy away from hard-hitting topics so prepare yourself for a thought provoking experience.

My favourite was 'Loose Ends' about Kitty, who's been burdened with guilt ever since the night she refused to give a drunk woman a ride home from her family's restaurant. Layla ended up dying after crashing her car but that wasn't the end of it... she returns and demands Kitty's help with taking care of her unfinished business. Kitty finds herself consoling Layla's parents, teaming up with her sister to atone for her misdeeds, and getting revenge on her worthless boyfriend, Randy (how they do it is priceless!). Like the other tales, it's sombre but balanced out with funny moments and characters you'll really feel for.

Whatever you're into at the moment, there's something in Even in Death for you.
